Kids Clothes Week

Kids Clothes Week is a seasonal sewing challenge that asks sewers to dedicate one hour per day for one week to sewing clothes for...kids.  Duh.  I really had planned on doing this; I have an endless to do list of sewing projects for my kids.  But the complications of a sick child and the overwhelming need to purge everything before this next baby is born forced me to just. sew. anything. and get it out of my way!
The sweet dress above had seen many days...and showed it!  It is now too small for Fiona and I had planned on mending the hole and packing it away for the next two girls...but I really hate gathers.  Instead, two simple skirts were created and my two batches of close sisters will have matching skirts!
The pants below aren't even kids clothes.  They are mine.  I bought them online at Old Navy on clearance.  The pockets bulged funny and I absolutely hated them.  If I would have found them in a store and tried them on, I would have put them back.  But since they were on clearance and the shipping cost more than the pants to return, I decided to try my first alteration.  This was like, two years ago.
Yay me! I totally finished them and it only took me about an hour.  Most of the time was spent ripping out the old seams.  Sewing only took about three minutes.  Can you believe I let this pair of pants sit on the floor next to my sewing machine for two years and just be clutter? Shame on me!
I am just charging through my list of sewing projects and am very proud of myself.  I've finished:
  • three cloth diapers
  • two pairs of shorts for Daniel
  • a pair of flannel pjs for Ian
  • two sets of curtains for the baby room (also sitting under my sewing machine for FOUR years!)
  • odd mending
  • sundress for Lula
  • flannel nightgown for Fiona
And there is still two days left! I have finished most of what has been bugging me and I'm almost ready to pack away all my fabric until next summer.
